SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
B’NAI MITZVA
• Include date
and synagogue of Bar/Bat Mitzva in the
announcement (dates are not printed, but
announcements will be run in the paper on the
weekend of the event).
• Include
geographical locations of relatives if they are
living; deceased relatives must be preceded by
“the late.”
• Quality
photos can be submitted in any size, black and
white or color (if you want photo returned,
include a self-addressed stamped envelope).
• Digital
photos can be attached to an e-mail as either a
.jpg or a .tif file with a resolution of at
least 200 ppi.
• There is a
$10 fee for submitting a Bar/Bat Mitzva
announcement with a photo for active AJW
subscribers; for non-subscribers, the fee is $30
that includes a one-year subscription to the
paper. If there is no photo included, there is
no charge (although most Bar/Bat Mitzva
announcements are printed with photos).
• Example:
Alena Ann
Simon, daughter of Kent Simon and Karen Gjerstad
and sister of Jane, will be called to the Torah
as a Bat Mitzva Saturday at Mount Zion Temple.
She will also participate in Friday evening
services. Alena is the granddaughter of Mary
Gjerstad and Eugene Gjerstad, Bloomington, and
Anita Simon, New York, N.Y., and the late
Michael Simon.

Melissa graduated from Cornell College and the
University of Minnesota Medical School. She is
an endocrinology fellow at the University of
Minnesota. James graduated from the University
of Michigan, and is a founder of Gold
Photography in Minneapolis. A September wedding
is planned at Adath Jeshurun Congregation.
